Programme Aims
The overall objective of CluedUp is to enable young women to make better informed decisions regarding all aspects of their lives. However, the main aims of the project are to:
- Increase access to and use of contraception, with particular focus on long acting reversible contraception (LARC) and condoms.
- Decrease risky sexual behaviour.
- Increase confidence and self-esteem.
- Reduce potential for sexually transmitted infection (STI) transmission and undiagnosed STIs.
- Reduce unwanted pregnancies.
- Reduce need for abortions, particularly repeat abortions.
Completing the programme, participants should feel they have:
- A good understanding of all contraception choices available to them, covering the features and benefits and efficiency of each – with a special focus on condoms and LARC.
- A good understanding of STIs, transmission routes, and implications of risky sexual behaviour. Symptoms. How tested for, how (if) cured, treated and protected against etc.
- Increased self-esteem and confidence to say no and negotiate safer sex.
- A better understanding of their own responsibilities to themselves and others.
- Increased knowledge of local clinics and support agencies – knowing where to go for help, testing and support in relation to all aspects of health.
